Custom Garage Doors from Christchurch, New Zealand

In Florida, I own a Boca Raton interior home decorating company, which has been my life’s work. I recently took the Hubby for a working vacation in Christchurch, New Zealand, where I visited a local garage door company to find a unique design for a client. While my husband was checking out the Kiwi culture, I toured Custom Made Garage Doors Ltd and I tell you, I was like a kid in a candy shop. They manufacture and supply garage doors to residents and businesses in New Zealand and are known for using top quality materials and construction.

They do a lot of things, but specialize in cedar garage doors. You can get cedar in various designs, from straight vertical or horizontal to vibrant herring-bone patterns. I love the stylish look of cedar, but I also like the durable construction featuring steel framing and top quality western red cedar, which is very lightweight. You can have the cedar stained any way you like or keep it natural – it always looks inviting, whatever the finish.

One thing I haven’t seen anywhere else is their flat panel sectional “Zincalume” door, made with, you guessed it, an amalgam of zinc and aluminum. If you wish, you can powder coat the door to color-match it to the rest of your house. The flat panel doors can feature negative detail or multi-rib sections for a smashing look. They can even vary the spacing between the adjoining ribs to have them line up with existing details of your home. These flat panel doors save energy costs because they are fully insulated with polystyrene. You can even get matching gates if you want to dress up your front yard.

I toured there more conventional supply of doors as well, including:

They do manufacture and installation, including the latest in garage openers. You can get roller or tilt technology as suits your fancy.

I could have spent the entire time looking at garage doors, but the Hubby made a good point that, while in Christchurch, a little touring was in order. It’s a fantastic city, with nice gardens, museums, parks and even an Air Force Museum. I had lamb every evening, what a treat! I would recommend Christchurch to any world traveler who also wants to look at non-garage-door sights. But the garage doors were definitely the main draw, as far as I was concerned.
